Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 20, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Dwell Transit ("Dwell", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our rider and driver mobile apps, our websites, and the transit data feeds we operate (together, the "Services"). Dwell provides real-time transit information for university campuses on behalf of the universities and transit operators we work with.
Information we collect
Location information
Our apps use device location to deliver their core features: showing nearby stops and vehicles on the map and, for the driver app, contributing the real-time position used to generate arrival predictions. With your permission, we may access precise location while you are using the app (and, for the driver app while on duty, in the background). You can change or revoke location access at any time in your device settings, though some features may not work without it.
Account information
Some parts of the Services, particularly the driver app, require an account. When an account is created, we collect information such as name, email address, and the university or transit operator and role you are associated with, along with the credentials used to sign in.
Usage and analytics
We collect anonymous, aggregated usage information about how the Services are used (for example, which screens are opened and which features are used) to understand performance and improve the product. This information is not used to identify you.
Crash and diagnostic data
When the apps encounter a problem, we collect crash reports and diagnostic information (such as device model, operating system version, and the technical state at the time of the error) so we can find and fix issues.
Device and technical information
Like most online services, we automatically receive certain technical information when you use the Services, such as IP address, device and browser type, and timestamps, primarily for security, reliability, and abuse prevention.
How we use information
- To provide, operate, and maintain the Services, including real-time positions and arrival predictions.
- To improve the accuracy of our predictions and the quality of the Services over time.
- To authenticate users and secure accounts.
- To diagnose, fix, and prevent technical problems and abuse.
- To communicate with you about the Services, including support requests.
- To comply with legal obligations.
How information is shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described here:
- Service providers. We use trusted infrastructure and tooling providers who process information on our behalf and are bound to protect it. These include cloud providers such as Google Cloud and Cloudflare, plus analytics and crash-reporting providers.
- Universities and transit operators. For driver accounts, we may share account and operational information with the university or transit operator you work with, since they administer that service.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the public, or Dwell.
- Business transfers. If Dwell is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
Data retention
We retain information for as long as needed to provide the Services and for legitimate business or legal purposes. Aggregated and de-identified data used to build and improve predictions may be kept indefinitely. Account information is retained while your account is active and deleted on request as described below.
Your choices and rights
- Location. You can grant or revoke location permissions at any time in your device settings.
- Account and data deletion. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal information by emailing support@dwelltransit.com. We will respond consistent with applicable law.
- Access and correction. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.
Children's privacy
The Services are intended for a general audience of university riders and operators and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International users
The Services are operated from the United States. If you use the Services from outside the United States, you understand your information may be processed in the United States and other countries.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
